Ben Rosen, a licensed U.S. attorney, has twelve years of experience in advising Americans in Mexico. Ben’s practice focuses on real estate law and development, corporate, development, and cross-border transactions. Since settling in Mexico in 1997, Ben—a dual American and Mexican citizen—has served as a bridge linking investors and entrepreneurs from one country to the other.

From 2005 - 2009, Ben has counseled foreign investors in transactions representing more than a combined US$230 million in Mexican real estate.

Ben is a frequent speaker and commentator before international legal and business audiences on Mexican matters. In October 2007, May 2007, December 2006 and April 2006, Ben co-chaired and/or spoke at the Atlas conferences held in Mexico and the United States entitled on “Legal Strategies for Doing Business in Mexico”/”Mexico Real Estate Summit”. In July 2006, he spoke at the International Living Seminar in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, and in October 2006 and October 2005, at the Baja California Meeting Point in Tijuana. In 2005, Ben spoke on Mexican real estate, foreign investment and international law topics at conferences in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico Guadalajara, La Paz, New York City, Seattle, Vancouver, and Amsterdam. In 2004, his speaking engagements included various trade delegations organized by the Canadian Embassy in Mexico and a CLE sponsored by Seattle University Law, on the Mexican legal culture and system. In 2003, Ben lectured on U.S. and cross-border environmental law at the Autonomous University of Mexico (UAM) Doctoral Program in Environmental Law. He has also been quoted in articles on Mexican and NAFTA issues, in prestigious publications in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

During his nine years in Mexico City, Ben was a longstanding member of the American and Canadian Chambers of Commerce, holding leadership positions before moving to Los Cabos in 2005. He has authored articles published in various international business and legal media on topics such as U.S.-Mexico cross-border environmental and energy law; international letters rogatory; enforcing foreign judgments in Mexico; privatization of Mexico’s airport and oil and gas sectors; the Mexican foreign investment law; Mexico’s maquiladora (in-bond plant) program; and government bidding procedures.

From 2003 to 2006, Ben was partner at a recognized Mexico City law firm, where he finished his tenure as Managing Partner of the Los Cabos office. From 1997 to 2004, in addition to his professional activities, Ben was an adjunct law professor at the Universidad de la Americas (UDLA) School of Law in Mexico City, where he taught courses on the United States Judicial System and Civil Procedure, and Legal Writing.

In 2001, Ben co-founded the international business and project development firm, AmeriCompass, based in Mexico City. From 1999-2001, Ben served as General Counsel and Manager, Mexico City, of a Canadian-owned international business consulting group and its subsidiary project development companies. From 1997-1999, Ben was a foreign law associate for the prestigious Mexico City law firm, Goodrich, Riquelme, where he counseled foreign companies on international business transactions, joint venturing, mergers & acquisitions, and government contracting.

While in law school, Ben served as a law clerk for various public defender agencies and successfully tried and won several jury trials and motions to dismiss as a Rule 9 intern.

Ben is happily married, and has three young girls born in Mexico. He has a love for tennis and basketball, and enjoys following Mexican politics. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a minor in English from the University of Oregon (1992). He earned his Juris Doctor degree, awarded cum laude, from Seattle University (1996), where he authored an independent study on international business transactions between the United States and Mexico. Ben is admitted to practice law in Washington State (1997) and accredited as having fulfilled the requirements to practice law in Mexico (2009) and is fluent in English and Spanish.
